NSW Deputy Premier Carmel Tebbutt has firmed back into outright favouritism to be in the top job when Labor attempts to retain office at the next NSW State election, early 2011!

Centrebet media chief and election analyst Neil Evans said Ms Tebbutt had shortened back in from $3.00 to $2.85 after new information obtained on a likely planned leadership bid! "She may have fought off talk over the weekend that she's happy to be in the deputy role behind embattled Premier Nathan Rees, but the battlelines have reportedly been well and truly drawn as far as a new-look team down the track," Evans said.

One-time minister Frank Sartor, who has been backed in Centrebet's Next Labor Premier market eases out to $3.10, as does controversial Prisons Minister John Robertson, the subject of a $2,000.00 bet last week, who's also out half a point to $6.50!

Premier Rees was heavily backed by punters after opening a raging $21.00 shot with Centrebet to hang on to his position after news filtered out leadership spills were on the horizon!

With speculation growing of Ms Tebbutt's handle on becoming NSW's first female leader, the State Opposition has shortened even further ($1.39) to win office at the next election, with the ALP out to its highest price of $2.88 (from $2.85)!

Meanwhile, a drop in both the Prime Minister's approval rating, and Labor's two-party preferred lead has seen the Federal government's price drift further to $1.57, with the rejuvenated Coalition firming in to $2.35, the shortest quote the Opposition has been since losing power to the Rudd/Swan team 18 months ago!

"Widespread dismay over some budgetary decisions has seemingly turned punters the Coalition's way, and bet numbers are running 5:1, although the jury remains out on whether Malcolm Turnbull, crucial as he is to the Coalition's policy team, is the right man to lead the party into the next poll," Evans said.
