The inner-western Sydney punter who has turned interest rate betting with Centrebet into an art-form has plundered $60,000.00 on the RBA keeping the official cash rate unchanged when the August decision is handed down next Tuesday!
Centrebet media chief Neil Evans said the regular Centrebet client had bet $10,000.00 at $1.10 on an unchanged decision not long after the bookmaker opened its market over a week ago before stepping back in with another $50,000.00 at $1.08! “It’s another massive statement, and the unchanged price has now firmed right up to $1.05,” Evans said. “The last four RBA decisions have been right on the money, and we’ve hardly seen a nickel in any other direction to say the RBA will shift the cash rate in August!
The only likely alternative decision – a 25bp cut – has drifted from $4.10 out to $6.00, while ‘Any Official Increase’ has eased from $9.00 out to $12.00!
“While the outlook for inflation does allow room for a further easing of monetary policy, the RBA will almost certainly adopt a slow-and-steady approach as the wider economy continues to stabilise, and global economies begin a slow recovery,” Evans said. “Any rate rise is still likely to be months away because demand for labour is still weak, and business borrowing has been steadily declining, despite recent signs of a much-needed pick-up in housing credit demand. Obviously, the RBA’s decision will reflect the continued tightness on credit conditions!”
Meanwhile, Federal Labor has charged into $1.45 – and the embattled Coalition eased to $2.70 – on Centrebet in the wake of continued poor approval ratings for Liberal leader Malcolm Turnbull! “Turnbull is slowly getting out in the leader’s markettoo, he’s now $1.75, with Shadow Treasurer Joe Hockey firming into $2.48, and even Tony Abbott has got into single betting figuresfor the first time at $9.00,” Evans said.
