Punters with leading bookmaker Centrebet are still climbing into the high price of $3.25 about Cox Plate favourite Whobegotyou, with a further $30,000.00 in bets arriving today after arch-rival Heart of Dreams had dominated for the previous 24 hours!

Centrebet media chief and race analyst Neil Evans said the $3.25 was “too good to refuse” for punters wanting to back Whobegotyou, a horse that’s been layed at the top of the Cox Plate market for months! “Today, we’ve had bets of $8,000.00, separate wagers of $5,000.00, and a few around the $2,000.00 and $2,500.00 mark all at the $3.25. We are prepared to take on Whobegotyou right to the wire,” Evans said.
“Heart of Dreams was suddenly all the rage after the barriers were declared and the pace in the race debated, with a surge of money yesterday and overnight, including one bet of $5,000.00 at $6.00. He shortened from $7.50 to $5.00 in the space of 48 hours.”
Evans said yesterday a regular racing client bet $25,000.00 on Whobegotyou at $2.90 when it was on the drift! “Our feeling with the favourite is that if you got on at $7.00 you are in for the ride of your life, but if you’ve taken under $3.00, you’re entitled to be nervous!”
Centrebet is also taking on the Lee Freedman-trained Speed Gifted, with bets accepted of $6,500.00 at $9.50 and $5,000.00 at his current quote of $11.00. The Gai Waterhouse-trained Rock Kingdom, winner of the Group 1 Epsom Hcp at Randwick on heavy ground, is being heavily specked, firming from $21.00 down to $17.00, while Bart Cummings’ power three-year-old So You Think continues to take sharp money, firming from $14.00 down to $12.00! Evans said Zipping was also a long-range fancy, shortening a point today to $14.00!
“The three horses they seem to have put a line through are El Segundo ($16.00), Black Piranha which has drifted out to $23.00 and Manhattan Rain which has blown from $19.00 out to $23.00,” Evans said.
One Centrebet client believes despised Kiwi outsider Sir Slick will be more than nuisance value on the day, betting $250.00 each way at the rank price of $201.00!
Meanwhile, Moonee Valley specialist Lucky Secret has been heavily backed to win the Group 2 Schweppes Stakes (1200m), firming from $3.80 into $3.50, including one bet of $10,000.00 at $3.60, while several thousand has also arrived for Apache Cat, trimming its price from $4.00 into $3.90! And Cummings’ stayer Think Money has shortened dramatically from $18.00 into $12.00 to win the Group 2 Cathay Pacific MV Cup (2500m) after a surge of money today!
