Who Will Take the Race that Stops a Nation? The Greatest Race in Aussie folklore is almost here, as the first Tuesday in November is upon us. The Melbourne Cup is where legends are made. From Pharlap to Might and Power to Makybe Diva, winning horses earn a place in history as they take out the most prestigious two-mile handicap in the world. It is arguably Australia’s single biggest ever sporting event.
The Melbourne Cup is littered with stroies of triumph and dispair, this year is it Bart's turn to triumph again?
Bart has had an amazing lead-up to the cup and with Viewed in classic winning form and Jockey Brad Rawiller on back this could be Lucky 13 for the master trainer, and it doesn't stop there with other genuine chance Roman Emperor and outside shot Allez Wonder in the running as well.
If the weather stays right in Melbourne... It will be very hard for the favourites to be left out; Viewed $5.50, Alcopop $7.50 and Roman Emperor at $8.50 are great value for the big race, however with a little rain and dampening of the track the book opens up. C'est La Guerre from John Sadler doesn't mind the wet or the open space on offer at flemington. Big outsider Fiumicino is another runner that cannot be forgotten and will definately scare if conditions are overcast.
Basaltico is another great chance from trainer Luca Camani. Luca Camani has had the last two runners-up in the cup (Bauer 08' and Purple Moon 09') so understands the quality and type of horse needed for the run.
