Shadow Treasurer Joe Hockey is back into an odds-on favourite on Centrebet to lead the imploding Coalition into the next Federal election, scheduled for late 2010, while under-fire leader Malcolm Turnbull has blown to $3.00!

Centrebet media chief and analyst Neil Evans said Mr Hockey's reluctent, almost forced admission that he would be prepared to take on the top job in the wake of mass resignations from the front bench over the explosive ETS debate meant Mr Turnbull's leadership was seemingly headed for the scrap-heap.

"Long-serving MP Tony Abbott has signalled a leadership challenge to Mr Turnbull if there is no retreat on the ETS deal, but privately Labor would be "laughing all the way to the bank" if Mr Abbott had the reins for the next election. It's always been our belief - and our market has reflected this - that Joe Hockey is the one Coalition politician who could bite into the ALP's significant margin at the next election. Without him as leader, the Coalition are 100/1."

Mr Hockey firms back in from $2.05 to $1.80, while Mr Turnbull, who had been backed to remain in the leader's job, drifts alarmingly from $2.20 out to $3.00, while Mr Abbott firms from $4.50 into $3.10.

The ALP, already heavily backed, has firmed into $1.17 on Centrebet to win the next election, with the Coalition now $4.65!
