Get ready for the International Racing Day at Sha Tin – four top class Group 1’s, the best jockeys, no track bias, and most importantly, high-tempo racing giving every horse its chance!
Centrebet’s pre-post betting on the big four already indicates a colossal day, and punters will look forward to Super Sunday that little bit more this year with Australia’s big three power sprinters All Silent, Scenic Blast and Apache Cat clashing in the Hong Kong Sprint (1200m).
All Silent ($4.00) is shading favouritism over rejuvenated local star Sacred Kingdom ($4.60), with Scenic Blast ($6.50) and Apache Cat, the least suited of the Aussie three, at $9.00! All Silent should be suited by the spacious Sha Tin track and with the speed on, but Sacred Kingdom - raced more sparingly these days - is fresh and ready, and should sit just off the pace. I’m tipping Sacred Kingdom to spoil the Australian party!
Grand stayer Viva Pataca is a light of other days, but heads the Hong Vase (2400m) market on Centrebet at $4.00 along with Youmzain. But the big value is Thumbs Up at $10.00. This is a very talented horse, who is best ridden quiet and saved for one run at them. He’s my tip, and the early price is sensational.
Punters too should not be worried about the latest sprinting star Happy Zero stepping up to 1600m in this company. He’s already been backed from $5.00 into $4.00, and is closing in on $2.40 out to $2.70 race favourite Good Ba Ba. Now 12 months is a long time in racing, and the old Good Ba Ba would probably keep Happy Zero at bay. But as much as I’ve lined my pockets on this champion miler over the years, Good Ba Ba is past his best, and Happy Zero is the one! His last-start win at the track over 1200m when emerging late to career away proves the mile will be too his liking, and he is the type of horse who can quicken off any speed! In fact, $15.00 shot Fellowship might be a bigger danger than Good Ba Ba!
