The money is starting to turn Australia’s way on Centrebet ahead of the Boxing Day Test, after early punters snapped up the opening $5.00 about Pakistan, shortening them into $4.90. But Centrebet’s Neil Evans says several thousand has been wagered in the last 24 hours on the Aussies at $1.78 to win the MCG clash, with the Draw also tightening from $3.40 in to $3.30!
“It seems they want to back Australia, but have waited to the odds lengthen a little,” Evans said. “But while Pakistan is expected to come out swinging, punters seem in little doubt Australia will take the best-of-three series, pushing the home side from an opening $1.63 into $1.57.”
Evans said the Drawn series was now at an attractive $4.25 (out from $3.75), while a Pakistan series win was now paying $5.25!
Meanwhile, prolific winner Wild Oats XI remains Centrebet’s well-backed $1.80 favourite to win the 2009 Sydney to Hobart yacht classic, with Alfa Romeo ($2.25) and ICAP Leopard ($4.50) the only other contenders in single figures! But the race record is not expected to fall, with No Record quoted at $1.75.
Evans said Wild Oats XI was commanding half off all monies invested including bets of $2,000.00 at $1.85 and $1,200.00 at $1.80, but Alfa Romeo and ICAP Leopard had also shortened from their opening prices. One Sydney punter has staked $750.00 on ICAP at $4.75!
