WILLIAM REID STAKES 2010 COUNTDOWN: PLUNGE ON NICCONI TO TAME 3YO HISTORY!

Punters with bookmaker Centrebet continue to wipe aside an imposing and dominant three-year-old record in tomorrow’s Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley to plunder four-year-old Lightning winner Nicconi!
Centrebet’s Neil Evans said Nicconi had been backed at every competitive price posted, and was now holding nearly 90 per cent of $40,000.00 traded on the race so far! “Apart from a productive last couple of hours for Shellscrape, which has seen his price tighten a full point into $4.50, they have lined up to back Nicconi!
“We took a stack of money at $3.50, before testing the market again at $3.75 with so much spruik and opinion about Wanted and Shellscrape! Predictably, they backed the horse heavily again. A short time ago Nicconi was attacked again at $3.65 and he’s in to $3.60, while Wanted is a massive drifter from an opening $3.75 out to $4.20!
Evans said bets on Nicconi included $5,000.00 at $3.70, just under $5,000.00 from one client across three bets at $3.70 and $3.65, $3,000.00 at $3.65, $2,500.00 at $3.75 and $2,000.00 at $3.65.
But in the last couple of hours, punters have taken a liking to Shellscrape, including bets of $5,000.00 at $4.85 and $2,500.00 at $5.25, and his tightening into $4.50 has balanced things out a little, but the four-year-old is massively supported! “Punters think with no Black Cavier to run down, Nicconi is the one, but knowing the history of the race, the three-year-olds have to be respected at weight-for-age,” Evans said.
Meanwhile, punters have side-stepped early favourite Extra Zero in the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes to steam into the promising Linton, including bets of $3,500.00 at $4.25 and $2,500.00 at $4.15.
At Randwick, the first $10,000.00 bet in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes for three-year-old fillies was almost exclusively for the returning More Joyous, prompting Evans to say “we’ll take the Waterhouse horse on all day here,” and we immediately pushed her to $2.15 and Trim out to $3.60! “I have a real feeling, they’ll ride More Joyous very quite from an outside barrier, and she may not be wound up enough to beat this very handy field first-up. Closer to the jump, Trim might be the big market mover, and I expect money to come for the tough Indian Ocean at a longer price,” Evans said. And first-up flyer Madame Pedrille has firmed from an opening $3.40 into $3.00 after being heavily backed ahead of the Group 2 Breeders Classic!
