The Doncaster Mile, Galaxy and the AJC Oaks at Centrebet

For punters, the fascination has almost become an obsession! All week we’ve been top price Typhoon Tracy, and all week they’ve come and bought! While respectful of the mare’s brilliant record and pure class, she has often come off the bridle on the turn – even in weaker and more leisurely run races! Of course, she knows how to respond, and has great gears as well – and ultimately puts the field away. But over a high-pressure Doncaster mile jumping from gate 14, she can’t afford any flat spots, and must be some sort of risk – at the price anyway!

But in they came, including one Centrebet client who bet $20,000.00 after another had $5,000.00, all at the $3.30. We trimmed her to $3.25, but the appeal is still there!

I’m banking on real “heat” from a long way out, and therefore a late closer – and another mare Palacio de Cristal is the one! Granted, she is often slow out and gets a long back, but from gate three she can bludge along in behind before threading the needle in the straight – running the fastest final sectional in the race! And she’s been well specked from $14.00 down to $12.00 back out to $13.00, with one punter outlaying $2500.00!

Danleigh is a top sprinter-miler and must be a chance despite the awkward draw, while Rangirangdoo has been well backed around the $7.50 mark, although again I feel he may be a sitting duck in the final furlong!

Elsewhere, punters came heavily for another mare Ortensia first-up in the Group 1 Galaxy smashing her from $4.20 into $3.90, although they would do well to have a little saver on Stryker second-up. He ran out of condition behind De Lightning Ridge in track record time in the Challenge, drops four kilos here, and the recent trial behind Ortensia was ideal for a race with natural speed on! Visiting flier and early favourite Definitely Ready has eased from $4.20 out to $4.50!

In the AJC Oaks, not surprisingly the money has been strong for VRC Oaks winner Faint Perfume! But for all her classic ability, she too is going around under the odds! And I don’t subscribe to the market theory that Valdemoro is her logical danger! I will be on Speedy Natalie who’s going enormous, and from the inside draw will get a lovely run! She’s been well specked from $7.50 down to $7.00 – and is the stand-out each-way value!

And one of the best-backed runners anywhere on Centrebet in the last couple of days has been the Snowden-trained Celts in the Listed second race for two-year-old fillies, shortening from $3.60 into $3.20!
