Another rush of smart money on Centrebet this morning has seen Home & Away veteran actor Ray Meagher charge into odds-on favouritism to land the coveted Gold Logie on Sunday night in the biggest market plunge in Logies history!
Another rush of smart money on Centrebet this morning has seen Home & Away veteran actor Ray Meagher charge into odds-on favouritism to land the coveted Gold Logie on Sunday night in the biggest market plunge in Logies history!
Meagher had been heavily backed for weeks – especially by a handful of ‘entertainment’ punters - since opening a $6.00 shot in Gold Logie betting several weeks back! “One punter has backed him more than a dozen times outlaying nearly $3,500.00 from $6.00 down to $2.00,” Evans said. “And a lot of smaller punters have ridden off the back of that for weeks!”
Evans said after Meagher continued to close in on original favourite and defending winner Rebecca Gibney to $1.80 late yesterday, another wave of backing has come this morning! “In the last few hours we’ve taken bets of $1,000.00 at $1.80, $1,000.00 at $1.72 and $800.00 at $1.65, and Meagher is now in to $1.55 favourite! Gibney, who opened a $1.40 favourite, is out to $1.72!”
“$6.00 into $1.55 is mind-blowing! It’s the biggest move I’ve seen, and we’ve been betting across Logies presentations for many years. We still think Rebecca Gibney’s a chance, but one thing’s for sure, no-one else in the field is! In fact, when you look at some of those nominated, you wonder how Humphrey B Bear didn’t get a start!”
Nearly $12,000.00 has been wagered on Meagher, with just under $2,500.00 on Gibney, and “not a cracker” for anyone else! “Earlier bets included $1500.00 at $4.50, $1,000.00 at $3.00 twice, $1,000.00 at $2.85 and $800.00 at $2.50,” Evans said.
Meanwhile in other categories, Hugh Sheridan has been heavily backed in the last 48 hours from $2.25 into $1.75 to take the Silver Logie for Most Popular Actor, while Gibney is a red-hot $1.10 fancy to claim the Silver gong for Most Popular Actress! Luke Mitchell has firmed from $2.10 into $1.75 to be named Most Popular New Male Talent, while in the Female category, Carrie Bickmore has shortened from $2.00 into $1.65!
