RECORD PUNT COMING ON WORLD CUP AS SPAIN POWERS INTO $4.75 FAVOURITE!
Leading bookmaker Centrebet predicts turnover of around $25 million on the 2010 World Cup as European champion Spain continues firming to finally win football’s greatest prize, shortening from $5.50 into $4.75 in the last 72 hours!
Centrebet’s Neil Evans said the Spanish were now a clear favourite to win the Cup, with five-time winner Brazil easing from $5.00 out to $5.50! England, whose only World Cup crown came in 1966, has also been heavily backed shortening from $9.00 into $7.00, while money is coming for two-time winner Argentina who have tightened from $7.50 into $7.00! But defending Cup holder Italy ($15.00) and three-time past winner Germany ($14.00) have both eased in tournament betting!
Evans said while the Socceroos remain a highly unlikely $81.00 to win the World Cup, thousands of punters believe they can emerge from a super-tough group and reach the last 16! “We opened that option at $3.00, and it’s been heavily backed into $2.70, with nearly $50,000.00 in bets taken. Once they heard midfield kingpins Michael Ballack (Germany) and Michael Essien (Ghana) were both out through injury, the money started pouring in,” he said. Not getting past the Group Stage has eased from $1.37 to $1.40 on Centrebet! In Socceroos Specials, Australia is $1.72 to score three or more goals in the tournament and $2.05 to score just two or less, while set-piece dynamo Tim Cahill is $2.00 to score at the Cup, but $1.72 not to! Amidst of a record number of betting markets, Centrebet has Australia a long $7.00 outsider to beat Germany in their opening match, with the Draw at $4.00 and the Germans a hot $1.47 favourite! But the Socceroos are a much shorter $2.95 shot to beat Serbia, with the Draw $3.25 and the Serbians $2.20 favourite!
“When you consider several hundred thousand in wagers has already been taken across all the World Cup markets from thousands of Australian and overseas customers, we could easily end up holding around $25 million,” Evans said. “Live betting will be massive. It’s not unusual to hold around $250,000.00 in-the-run on a single game, especially if it’s a wider betting match between two big guns. We have a record number of markets close to 200, covering every match, every group, and every play in every battle!”
Some of Centrebet’s markets include Tournament Specials, Head-to-Head and Totals, Top Goal Scorer - Team & Individual, Name the Finalists, Group Winners, To Qualify, Total Group Goals, Wooden Spoons, Group Quinella, Group Exacta, Win Group, To Qualify, Total Goals, Will/Will Not Score, Stage of Elimination, Group Points, Maximum Points, Time of Goals, Goalscorer Head-to-Head … AND SO ON!
