Who'll be this year's Best and Fairest?

HISTORY

In 2007, Jimmy Bartel snared 5 extra votes to claim the AFL's most prestigious trophy. This year, many of the faces from last year's tight race have risen again to steal the award given to the League's Best and Fairest competitors.

Here's a look at the Top Five chances:

1) Gary Ablett Jnr ($2.20) - With the form Geelong has shown all year, it's not surprising that the Son of 'God' is at the top of this list. After being pipped by teammate Bartel in 2007, many see Ablett as a lock to claim his first medal. Having already won the Premiership his father never could, will he now add the first Brownlow Medal to the Ablett mantelpiece?

2) Jimmy Bartel ($4.25) - Can last year's Medallist hold onto the goods? He's had some detractors this year, but, by his own account, his form has been just as consistent as it was in the '07 season. Only six others have won back-to-back medals since it's inception in 1924. Will Bartel be able to add his name to the list?

3) Brent Harvey ($4.25) - Boomer has been brilliant, leading the Roos into the Finals once again. When Ablett went down to injury, Harvey didn't just close the gap between him and his competitor, he took over the lead. Yet after Geelong crushed North Melbourne in Round 21, will the votes go to the Cat again?

4) Adam Cooney ($15.00) -
The explosive midfielder is enjoying his best season ever for the Bulldogs, slotting goals from all over the park. The form of his team has to help, as they've climbed ten spots in a matter of a year. He'll need that same sort of ascension to leapfrog his competitors. Can he shock the crowd at Melbourne's Crown Casino this year?

5) Joel Corey ($21.00) - Last year, Corey showed everyone why he's so crucial to Geelong's efforts as his inspirational play fired the Cats to the flag. This year he's back at it again. After his recent naming to the 2008 All-Australian side, Corey's climbed up in our books and looks like a strong dark horse for the medal. Will his ability to drive his more recognised teammates be awarded?
