Unlike Ice Hockey, Bandy uses a full field similar to football with eleven players on each team. The rules are very similar to soccer and hence it is sometimes known as "winter soccer".

The origins of the game can be traced back 4,000 years to Egypt. The North Americans 'perverted' the game in the 1800s by reducing the size of the pitch, the goals and number of players, renaming the game Ice Hockey. Bandy has been played with both a puck and a ball, however since the start of the twentieth century the game has been played with a ball. The modern game emerged in the 1800s and was introduced to Scandinavia, Germany and Switzerland around the 1890s. Bandy is now played in over 20 countries around the world.
