Test Cricket Betting

17th June 2008, by

Test cricket is played over five days, with three two-hour sessions of play per day.

Each team of eleven gets two turns to bat (innings) during which time their objective is to accumulate as many runs as they can. In contrast the fielding team's objective is to minimise the run accumulation by 'dismissing' the batting team.

Batsmen may be given out in a number of ways; bowled (a direct hit on the stumps/wicket by the bowler), caught, LBW (umpire assessment that a ball hitting the batsmen's protective pad would have hit the stumps if the pad was not in the way), run out or stumped being the most likely.

A team's innings at bat is over when they no longer have two undismissed batmen at the crease, but they may also elect to voluntarily close their innings.

If both teams have two completed innings during the five days, then the match is won by the team with the highest aggregate run total (innings 1 + innings 2). The same total produces a tie.

If, after five days, only one team is dismissed twice and its aggregate runs total is less than the other team's then the twice dismissed team loses. If their aggregate is greater the match is declared a draw.

Test Cricket Betting - Bet Types

Test cricket betting continues to be a popular option for Centrebet clients. To meet client needs, Centrebet issues Test cricket betting odds whenever two of the ten Test-cricket-playing nations come together for a five-day game.

Cricket betting often reflects match popularity. Some cricket matches are just more interesting than others. For example, the demand for Test cricket prices on a series between India against Pakistan is far greater than that for a Bangladesh versus Zimbabwe clash.

It means Centrebet cuts its Test cricket betting cloth according to the profile of the contest. For a high-profile Ashes series match (Australia versus England), Centrebet will offer odds on everything from the final outcome of the match and series to the identity of the man of the match and the series leading wicket taker. Bets on the highest-scoring batsman in each innings of a Test are also a very popular option.

If demand is high enough, live betting on the next man out and ball-by-ball price alterations may also be offered on any given Test. Centrebet also offers Test cricket futures for punters who want to back their favourite team(s) or player(s) to perform well (or poorly) over the course of a forthcoming series.

Test Cricket Betting - Current Status

Despite their Ashes stumble in 2005/2006, Australia's strength in depth is such that it will likely continue to start every Test cricket match it plays as Centrebet's favourite. Arguably the world's leading batsman, Ricky Ponting captains a wonderful side blessed with brilliant, aggressive batsmen, a potent if ageing bowling brigade and the world's best all-rounder in the shape of batsman/wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist.

Having reclaimed the Ashes for the first time in 18 years in the 2005/2006 series, England have consolidated their position as heir apparent to Australia's test cricket crown. India continue to be a talented but enigmatic outfit while the remainder of the traditional Test cricket nations are 're-building' for the future. Zimbabwe’s continuing struggles are exacerbated by political unrest and Bangladesh have yet to master the five-day game.

Test Cricket Betting - Part Of A Bigger Range

Test cricket betting isn't the only cricket betting Centrebet offers. Whenever two of the 11 one-day-playing countries - Kenya is a member of the ODI scene - lock horns, Centrebet is sure to offer One-Day International odds. The Cricket World Cup is the highest profile one-day international tournament on the calendar, while the ICC Champions Trophy is a more-regular mini version. Australian and English domestic cricket also attracts plenty of attention, so Centrebet offers regular prices on such competitions as the County Championship, ING Cup and Pura Cup.

Centrebet also offers football betting on a wide range of codes from across the globe, including football betting odds on the majority of the world's premier domestic and club football leagues, NFL football odds, Rugby League prices and Rugby Union prices.

We also cover a large slice of competition from other sports, including golf betting, tennis betting, horse racing and winter sports betting. Check out Centrebet's monthly online sports betting calendar for an indication of what's happening when.
