The Doncaster Handicap is Australia’s finest mile race and attracts a quality field of gallopers each year. This open handicap, run during Sydney’s Autumn Racing Carnival, offers up a prize pool of $2 million and is the chance for horses and trainers to make a name for themselves in a typically tough field.
Also known as the Doncaster Mile, this Group 1 is raced over 1600 metres and will be run on Saturday 16th April, 2011. Hosted by the Randwick Racecourse in Sydney, the Doncaster Handicap has been a race recently dominated by four-year-olds.
The Doncaster Handicap 2010 was a tightly contested event taken out by five-year-old Rangirangdoo. In a fantastic finish, jockey Nash Rawiller made his move with 200 metres to go, pipping Road to Rock tantalising close to the line to claim victory.

The Doncaster Handicap, held at Sydney's Randwick Racecourse is the most famous mile on the Australian racing calendar. The Handicap is a Group One thoroughbred horse race held each year on Easter Monday.
One of the two great mile handicap races run at Randwick, the Doncaster was first staged in 1866. It is the April counterpart of the Epsom Handicap, staged in October. Each race takes its name from a famous English racecourse.
