Past Germany V Netherlands Match Results:
The first Group D games occured on 15 June 2004 between the Germans and the Dutch and the Czech Republic against Latvia. The Germans and Dutch had not met in a major tournament since the European Championship in Sweden in 1992, when the Dutch won 3-1. The Germans did however win a friendly match against the Netherlands in 1996.
Going back a little further, the Dutch defeated the West Germans in 1988 to go into the finals and beat the former Soviet Union. Two years later they lost to West Germany at the World Cup in Italy in a second round game that was spoilt by an incident where defender Frank Rijkaard spat at Rudi Voeller, the current German coach. There will always be a certain rivalry and rancour when these two teams meet; promising fans a game to remember and one that should not be missed.
Dutch coach Dick Advocaat had plenty of talent to work with in the form of Edgar Davis and Clarence Seedohf in midfield and an attack that could feature Ruud van Nistelrooy, Patrick Kluivert, Roy Makaay, Jimmy Floyd Hassellbaink, and Pierre van Hooijdonk. Centrebet provided prospective punters a full Euro 2004 match betting schedule so you could plan your bets.
Germany reached the final of the 2002 World Cup proving that the shortage of world class players had not reduced their ability to win games at the highest level. Midfielder Michael Ballack was hungry to make up for missing that match against Brazil due to suspension.
The Czechs were beaten by Germany in the final of Euro 96 and the Dutch played a major part in their early exit from Euro 2000. Since the beginning of 2002, the Czech team have only lost two out of 22 matches and with the assistance of the European Footballer of the Year, Pavel Nedved sailed through the qualifying stage with seven wins and one draw. Key players included former Manchester United winger Karel Poborsky, super tall Dortmund striker Jan Koller and club team mate and playmaker Tomas Rosicky.
