Eurovision Song Contest Betting

Centrebet offers Eurovision Song Contest betting odds as soon as the field is known for the annual competition. Eurovision Song Contest odds are offered on musical acts, whom each represent countries whose national broadcasters are members of the European Broadcasting Union. The first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 was a relatively minor affair. On a Thursday night in Lugano, only seven countries competed for the title, with one of the home entrants, Switzerland's Lys Assia, winning with “Refrain”. Now, however, it is a much bigger deal.

Eurovision Song Contest Betting – Bet Types

Centrebet offers Eurovision Song Contest betting odds on the winner, top three and head-to-head matches to name just a few. Sometimes Centrebet can even take bets on the national heats, but this can only occur when the broadcaster in question makes it possible to hear the hopeful tunes before the event.

Eurovision Song Contest Betting – The Contest

The Eurovision just keeps getting bigger and bigger, with 37 nations represented in 2006. Band “Lordi” won the 2006 competition with a record 292 points. The band was also the first ever hard rock act to win as well as the first Finnish act to win.

Eurovision Song Contest rules are simple. Each participating broadcaster enters a tune that has not been released commercially prior to the competition. So as to ensure that the show moves along at a steady pace, songs must not exceed three minutes in duration. Neither “Bohemian Rhapsody” nor “Stairway To Heaven” would have cut the mustard. Any tune that lasts longer than 180 seconds runs the risk of disqualification. Another law is that each act may consist of no more than six people. Performers can sing in any language, even ones that do not exist. Cast back your minds to Belgium's effort in 2003.

No nation takes the contest more seriously than Sweden. Its qualifying competition, Melodifestivalen, is one of the country's highest rating television programs and everyone in the Scandinavian region knows that Abba won the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest. It was its first step on the road to superstardom. Agnetha, Anni-Frid, Benny and Bjorn did not look back after topping the vote in the British seaside town of Brighton with their hit, Waterloo.
