Formula 1 Betting - The Basics

Formula One betting odds form the backbone of Centrebet's great motor sport betting service. The 2007 Formula One season gets the green light in Australia on March 18. Twenty-two drivers representing 11 teams are competing in motor sport's most famous competition this year, with the series starting in the streets of Melbourne and finishing at Interlagos in Brazil on October 21.

Millions of fans watch Formula One races but there is more to the motor sport also called F1 (or Grand Prix racing) than the Sunday contests. Qualifying sessions determine in which order drivers line up on the grid, with everyone out to grab pole position or a spot on the front row.

The Formula One points system is the same in 2007 as it was in 2006. The top eight finishers in each Grand Prix score points that count towards both the World Drivers Championship and the World Constructors Championship. The winning driver and team earn ten points, with the scale awarding eight points for second, six points for third, five points for fourth, four points for fifth, three points for sixth, two points for seventh and one point for eighth. If the winner completed less than 75 percent of the race distance then F1 officials award half points. There are no points awarded to any driver or team if the winner does not complete at least two laps.

As one would expect, the highest scoring driver at the end of the season wins the Formula One World Drivers Championship and the highest scoring team picks up the F1 World Constructors Championship. In the event of a tie, the driver/team with the higher number of superior race results triumphs. Fernando Alonso and Renault are defending their prized titles in 2007 for the second consecutive year.

Formula 1 Betting - The Drivers

The 22 drivers (and 11 teams) competing in the 2006 Formula One season are:
