The winning driver and team earn ten points, with the scale awarding eight points for second, six points for third, five points for fourth, four points for fifth, three points for sixth, two points for seventh and one point for eighth. If the winner completed less than 75 percent of the race distance then F1 officials award half points. There are no points awarded to any driver or team if the winner does not complete at least two laps.

As one would expect, the highest scoring driver at the end of the season wins the Formula One World Drivers Championship and the highest scoring team picks up the F1 World Constructors Championship. In the event of a tie, the driver/team with the higher number of superior race results triumphs. Fernando Alonso and Renault are defending their prized titles in 2007 for the second consecutive year.
