The 2003 French Open Tennis Tournament at Roland Garros was held from 26 May to 8 June. This is by far the world's premier clay court event. Centrebet offered a range of French Open tennis betting odds. Betting options included individual match winners, overall winner and best of 3 sets.

2003 French Open Tennis Results

The newly appointed 'King of Paris', Spanish third seed Juan Carlos Ferrero, stormed to his first Grand Slam title, sweeping aside unseeded and outclassed Dutchman, Martin Verkerk, in straight sets. The 23 year old Ferrero, runner-up last year, and who had ousted countryman and defending champion Albert Costa in the semi-final, finally achieved his dream of winning here, coming through 6-1, 6-3, 6-2.

A battle between two Belgians in the women's final resulted in success for Justine Henin-Hardenne over Kim Clijsters. The Belgian newspapers described it as "for Justine Henin, Patis is a true paradise on earth".

Tenniseum And Venue History

Opening for the first time this year was the Tennis Museum known as the Tenniseum. It includes a history of Roland Garros as well as tennis in general. The Tenniseum has a multi-media area, a library, and a kids section to ensure all are catered for. There is also over 250 hours of tennis to watch covering all the great games on state-of-the-art plasma screens.

The French Open Tennis venue is named for Roland Garros, a famous French aviator who flew across the Mediterranean Sea in 1913. The 3 hectare location was provided after the French team won the Davis Cup on American soil. The planned re-match in France the next year was the stimulus for the construction of the Roland Garros venue. The complex was first used in 1928 and hosted the French Championships until 1968 when the Open began. The only Frenchman to win was Yannick Noah in 1983. Bjorn Borg has won the title six times.

Tennis Betting

Online Tennis betting requires much preparation and information gathering. Rather than just choosing your favourite players, it is worthwhile spending some time learning about players form, favoured playing surface and ranking. It is best to go much deeper down the rankings and learn as much as you can about every competitor, as this provides more opportunities to find a good bet.

The Grand Slam

The Grand Slam refers to the four big events - Wimbledon, the Australian Open, the French Open and the US Open. To gain a Grand Slam means a competitor must win all four tournaments in one year. This has become even more difficult recently as all four court surfaces are different. Australia has Rebound Ace, France has clay, Wimbledon has grass and the US has Decoturf. Since its inception 70 years ago, only a few players have pulled it off. They are: Donald Budge (1938), Rod Laver (1962 & 1969), Margaret Court (1970), Maureen Connolly (1953 ) and Steffi Graf (1988). Andre Agassi is the last person to gain a career Grand Slam. His wins at the French Open and Wimbledon are separated by 7 years.

As well as covering most major international sporting events, like Formula 1 betting, and golf betting, Centrebet is also currently offering the latest online sports betting facilities on most major sporting codes and events.
