The Golden Slipper Stakes is the jewel in the crown of Sydney’s Autumn Racing Carnival. This 1200 metre sprint is the richest 2 year-old horse race in the world, offering up a colossal prize purse of $3.5 million.
Ran at Rosehill Racecourse and conducted by the Sydney Turf Club, this glamour race was first run in 1957 and provides young gallopers with a chance at stardom early on in their racing career. The Golden Slipper Stakes will be run on Saturday 7th April in 2012.
Last year’s Golden Slipper was won by the favourite Sepoy by 2 lengths ahead of outside contender Mosheen and Elite Falls.

The Golden Slipper is the world's richest race for two year old horses held every year on the Saturday prior to Easter at Rosehill racecourse in Sydney.
Sydney Turf Club committeeman, George Ryder was the creator for the Golden Slipper Stakes. He wanted a race solely for two year olds run at special weights - 54 kg for colts and geldings and 51 kg for fillies.
The first Golden Slipper Stakes was run in 1957 with 11 runners and was won by the great champion colt Todman. Over the next four years the winners of the
Golden Slipper were all sired by the sire Star Kingdom whose sire lines can still be found in the breeding of many of today's winners.
