PUNTERS PIN AUSSIE FAITH IN ZIPPING & BARBARICUS TO BRING DOWN O/S INVASION

The Luca Cumani-trained Mad Rush continues to be a heavily-backed $5.00 favourite ahead of tomorrow's Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m), although Australian punters are still warming to the Lloyd Williams-owned Zipping and Saturday's MacKinnon Stakes runner-up Barbaricus who have both firmed strongly in the market today!
Centrebet's media chief and race analyst Neil Evans said a string of bets on Zipping had seen him firm from $17.00 down to $15.00, while Barbaricus is looming as the best "Down Under" hope in the Cup, shortening from $17.00 to $15.00 as well today after more good money!
"Both Barbaricus and Zipping are looming as big double-figure pay-outs if either can land the Cup," Evans said. "And it's no surprise, punters are swinging back to the Caulfield Cup as the best home-grown formline.
"Barbaricus ran a mighty third in that race, Mad Rush stormed home from the back to run fourth, Nom du Jeu was a big finishing second. They've all been very well backed for tomorrow's Cup."
Evans said NZ's AJC Derby winner Nom du Jeu had eased out fractionally to $9.00 today, leaving the Dermot Weld-trained Profound Beauty - the star attraction at trackwork through the week - very well supported on the third line of betting at $8.50!
One-time favourite Septimus is still Centrebet's $5.50 second elect!
