2011 Caulfield Guineas – Top Horses
The favourite horses for the 2011 Caulfield Guineas are sure to feature prominently in the betting rings. The top 5 are:
Helmet – This 3 year old colt won its start at Caulfield at the end of September, proving it can go the distance at the track. It’s for this reason that he goes in as favourite in the betting. Helmet registered two 3rd places in other lead up races. Smart Missile – The 3 year old colt was unplaced at Caulfield last start over 1400 metres, losing out to Toorak Toff. Races beforehand had him 2nd, 1st and 1st and were against other top Guineas chances in Manawanui and Helmet. The betting markets have him as second favourite. Manawanui – After winning his last race over 1500 metres at Rosehill, Manawanui goes into the Caulfield Guineas as third favourite in the betting odds. He registered a win over both Helmet and Smart Missile at the start of September, although there were interference issues during the race. Chase The Rainbow – Won his past race at Moonee Valley over 1600 metres and placed 2nd in a 1400 metre race at Flemington before that. Has also registered two wins at Geelong this Spring, so the form is there to challenge at odds. Collar – This New Zealand Gelding has only had three starts, but has won two of them. The big question will be whether he can go on with it when the stakes are raised at Caulfield, and if he can handle the extra distance at long odds.

The Grahame Begg trained Ilovethiscity has replaced Toorak Toff as favourite for the Guineas at $4.25 after the horse started at $4.50 with Centrebet. A bet of $2,500 at $4.50 has seen the horses’ price firm, and this flood of money has had the opposite effect on Toorak Toff, who started at $4 and has eased to $4.60.
Anacheeva, who defeated favourite Toorak Toff last start, has drifted slightly and is on the third line of betting at $7, while Rekindled Interest, who is crying out for the mile, is next best at $7.50. Rekindled Interest has been well backed as soon as the final field prices went up on Centrebet, firming in from $9 to $7.50 with this continual support.
Masquerader, who represents great value at $11, is reportedly working well in Melbourne and with barrier 3 can find the perfect position in the run.
Of the roughies, the Bart Cummings trained Cosmonaut is best backed, firming in from $101 to $41
