Centenary Celebrations Continue...

HISTORY

Rugby League has grown from it's humble beginnings one hundred years ago. With teams up and down the East Coast of Australia and leagues getting stronger in Europe, the 2008 Rugby League World Cup is set to be a massive affair.

The National Rugby League will be another year of hot competition, as reigning champions, the Melbourne Storm, aim for their third Grand Final in as many years. Their full-throttle footy saw them blow Manly away in the 2007 decider, but with teams preparing to emulate their style, can the blokes from down south stay ahead of the pack?

Meanwhile, some of the big names of footy take to the paddocks of Northern England, for the 2008 English Super League campaign. Last year's league leaders, St Helens are the hot favourites to steal the Championship from Leeds, but teams like Warrington have made some key Aussie acquisitions. Can Matt King and Michael Monaghan lead the Wolves to the top? Or will the Rhinos hold on for their third Super League title?

Then, come the last week of October, the 13th Rugby League World Cup kicks off. Nine teams will come to Australia with their focus on dethroning the reigning champions, the Australian Kangaroos. Three years ago, the Kiwis shocked the world by knocking off the Roos in the Tri-Nations series. Can the repeat their efforts in 2008? Or will Australia raise the trophy for the seventh consecutive occasion?
