Rugby World Cup Betting – The Basics

The 2007 Rugby World Cup will be held in France, with the first match taking place on September 7 involving the home team and Argentina’s “Pumas”. Over a month of Rugby will culminate in the final, which will be held in St Denis on October 20.

The Tournament consists of 20 teams which are broken into 4 groups. Each team plays each other team in their group once, with the winner and runner up of each group (on points) going into the quarter-final knock out stage of the tournament.

Rugby World Cup Betting – Bet Types

Traditionally, sports betting on the Rugby World Cup doesn’t really become interesting until the first qualifying final as teams more closely ranked played each other. Although the Winner book is the most popular form of betting, many other options are taken on by Centrebet clients. This includes First Half and Second Half Handicap, First Stoppage in Play, First Try Scorer, Winning Margin and numerous Player Match-Ups.

The highlight of the Rugby World Cup in 2003 was the final played between England and Australia. After eighty minutes of play in pouring rain the scores remained level. In the last 3 minutes of overtime, it looked like the game would go into sudden death extra time. However with only minutes left, Jonny Wilkinson put a field goal between the posts from 40 metres out, winning the game for England. Both camps were in agreement that the game was possibly the best game of rugby ever seen and that the English team truly deserved their win.
