Tennis Betting Odds - 2003 Season Review

17th June 2008, by

Tennis in 2003 was as usual, dominated by the Grand Slam events. In a sport that generates a great deal of interest from punters all around the world, Centrebet offers tennis betting on all major events. Our tennis odds are usually the best available on-line.

The 2003 tennis season brought with it a few surprises. A number of players, both men and women ear-marked at the beginning of the season as likely to dominate in these tournaments did not achieve their expected outcomes. The two names that stand out are Leyton Hewitt and Serena Williams. Although Serena did win two Grand Slam events there was an expectation that she would win all four. Others, such as Justine Henin-Hardenne, emerged to take over as the most likely to succeed.

The Australian Open

Andre Agassi won the men's title against Rainer Schuettler in straight sets. This was Andre's 4th Australian Open win and his 8th Grand Slam title. In the women's final, Serena Williams defeated her sister Venus giving her 4 consecutive Grand Slam wins.

The French Open

Juan Carlos Ferrero won the clay court men's title in straight sets against Martin Verkerk. In the women's title Justine Henin-Hardenne beat Serena Williams in the semi-final and then Kim Clijsters in the final.

Wimbledon

Roger Federer of Switzerland won the men's title over Australian Mark Phillippousis while the Williams sisters again fought it out for the women's title. Senena emerged victorious as Venus struggled with injury.

The Us Open

Andy Roddick won his first Grand Slam event over Juan Carlos Ferrero in the 2003 US Open. Although Roddick was heavily backed early in the pre-post betting, a late surge of interest in Ferrero resulted in a positive result for Centrebet when Roddick took out the tournament. Justine Henin-Hardenne won her second Grand Slam event for the year. After being well out of the semi final against Jennifer Capriati, she made a miraculous recovery to win and then defeated Clijsters in the final. Both Venus and Serena Williams were absent with injury problems.

The ATP Men's Champion race for the 2003 tennis season saw Andy Roddick come out on top with 907 points closely followed by Roger Federer on 875. In the WTA women's points race Justine Henin-Hardenne came out the winner, in front of Kim Clijsters.
