Tri-nations Rugby Betting - The Basics

Tri-Nations betting was introduced to Centrebet's sports odds range from the moment these international tournaments were conceived and launched. Each year Centrebet frames a large number of Tri-Nations betting markets on both the rugby union and rugby league Tri-Nations competitions.

Union****:
The International Rugby Union was first to market the Tri-Nations concept as they attempted to promote the newly professional code in the Southern Hemisphere. The competition, featuring Australia (the Wallabies), New Zealand (the All Blacks) and South Africa (the Springboks), was a smash from the moment it kicked off in 1996.
Since then the competition has been contested each year on a home-and-away basis. The winner of the yearly title is the team finishing the round-robin competition with the most points. These points are awarded in line with IRB standards; four points for a win, two for a draw and none for a loss. Teams scoring four or more tries in a match or losing a match by less than seven points receive a bonus point.

League:
Reacting to ongoing criticism that it does not have a legitimate international calendar, rugby league tested the Tri-Nations concept in 1999. Australia (the Kangaroos) and New Zealand (the Kiwis) hosted Great Britain (the Lions) in a three-match (one match against each opponent) round-robin before clashing in the series final.
With the criticism again resurfacing in a rugby union World Cup year, the concept was revived with great success in 2004. This time Australia and New Zealand toured England and played the round-robin tournament over six matches. The 2004 tournament proved such a success that it has now been introduced as an annual end-of-season competition.
