UFC 146 will be the first UFC event in history that will feature 5 Heavyweight bouts on the main card. Heavyweight Champion Junior Dos Santos will take on Frank Mir, originally Dos Santos was set to fight Alistair Overeem however he failed his pre fight drug test and was eliminated from the bout and for 9 months thereafter. Due to Overeem's omission there was a major reshuffle of the main card fights. Former champ Cain Velasques will now take on Brazilian Antonio Silva. Roy 'Big Country' Nelson is set to face Brazilian Gabriel Gonzaga. Shane Del Rosario will face off against Stipe Miocic and the New Zealander now calling Australia home and former K1 Champion Mark Hunt will face Dutch beanpole Stefan Struve.

In UFC 145 in Atlanta, Georgia Jon 'Bones' Jones retained the Light Heavyweight title against 'Suga' Rashad Evans in a fight that went the full distance of 5 rounds. Jones was a resounding winner with a unanimous decision from the judges. In other fights, Rory McDonald won against Che Mills by TKO in the 2nd round. Ben Rothwell knocked out Brenda Schaub at 1:10 in the 1st round. Likewise, Michael McDonald knocked out Miguel Torres in the 1st round. Eddie Yagin won a split decision over Mark Hominick, Mark Bocek won a unanimous decision over John Alessio and heavyweight Travis Browne won via triangle choke submission in the 1st round.
