Us Pga Golf Championship - The Basics

The US PGA Golf Championship began during World War I, with James Barnes winning the inaugural event in 1916. Back then it was a match play tournament, with the switch to stroke play occurring in 1958 when Dow Finsterwald finished 14 under par.

In 2007, the Southern Hills Country Club, located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, plays host to the 89th USPGA Championship. The Perry Maxwell designed layout was built in 1935 and boasts the claim of being the first course to host four PGA Championships having previously held the tournament in 1970, 1982 and 1994.

The par 71, 7061 yard course was renovated by Keith Foster in 1999 and is typified by tight fairways, re-contoured greens, deep bunkers, tall vegetation and very vocal local fans, which will ensure a competitive and demanding week awaits the field of 156 players who have earned their right to play the last of this year's major championships.

Us Pga Golf Championship - Bet Types

Centrebet offers a wide range of betting odds on the US PGA Golf Championship. Although the US PGA Championship is the least revered of golf's four major tournaments, Centrebet affords the same high level of respect to US PGA Golf Championship betting as it does to books on the US Masters, US Open and British Open earlier in the year.

One could play a solid 18 holes in the time it would take to list all Centrebet's US PGA Golf Championship betting odds. Our basic offering enables golf betting fans to bet on everything from the tournament result - for example, Colin Montgomerie to win and ditch the unwanted best-golfer-not-to-have-won-a-major tag or Adam Scott to get close for a change and finish in the top five - to the outcome of a third-round three-ball between Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh and the phenomenon himself, Tiger.

Us Pga Golf Championship - The Contenders 2007

The US PGA Golf Championship honour roll suggests that punters should be wary of backing the betting favourites. Sure, Tiger Woods won the 2006 US PGA Golf Championship, but the event has a history of delivering shock first-time-major winners. No-one outside his immediate family knew much about Rich Beem before he triumphed in 2002 and the same went for 2003 title claimant Shaun Micheel.

Golf commentators generally agree that the tournament's stature as the least important, and last played, of the four major competitions is the main reason why it produces shock winners with some regularity. That said, the US PGA Golf Championship is the last chance for a major trophy and poor-performing champions can not be discounted in their final attempt to 'turn their year around' or for those on top of their game to continue their hot streak.
